My Favorite Backpacking Gear on Sale for Small Business Sales Week

Garage Grown Gear is hosting their annual Small Business Sales Week just in time for summer backpacking and camping! I don’t typically do roundups like this but 1) I love that these are all small businesses and 2) it gives me an opportunity to turn y’all onto some great deals before summer backpacking. I’m only highlighting gear I own and use in this roundup, but there are lots of other small businesses with sales on GGG this week, so be sure to check them all out!

The first two brands with sales that I am SUPER stoked about are BearVault and Ursack. Food storage is one of those things that is just not that exciting to spend money on, so I’m extra appreciative when these items go on sale.

BV500 (and other sizes) from BearVault — 10% off

From BearVault, I have the BV500. I’ve had it since I hiked the PCT and have taken it on many trips since. There are several wilderness areas that require hard sided bear canisters, so it’s nice to always have this on hand to keep my options open. Even if an area doesn’t require a hardsided canister, a BearVault is a great backup to have if you are heading into grizzly country or anywhere with heavy bear activity. It also protects against “little bears” like mice and squirrels which can run rampant in almost ANY area. Plus, you can cover it in fun stickers to show other hikers how cool you are when you end up using this as a camp chair.

You can’t see it, but my BV500 is in my pack in this photo.

Ursack Major (and others) from Ursack — 10% OFF

Another awesome piece of food storage gear is the Ursack. I put off buying one of these for ages because I already had a bear can, but I’m SO GLAD I finally made this purchase. For trips when a hardsided can isn’t required, I love having an Ursack to still protect my food and give me peace of mind overnight. I bring this on basically every trip now to also guard against mice, ravens, you name it. It’s lighter than carrying a bear can, but still protects bears from your food and vice versa. Just make sure you are hanging these properly. Having this bag is not a substitute for leaving your food out on the ground overnight!

Cnoc — 10% Off

As some of you may know, I’m training for my first 50k and as I get into longer and longer runs, I’m in need of hydration solutions that work with a running vest. Cnoc has a running collection (including long straws so you don’t have to take your flasks out of your pocket to drink) that’s currently 15% off!

Katabatic Gear — 10% off quilts, 20% off jackets, bivys and hoods

Last summer, I procured my first ever Katabatic quilt and I don’t think I’ll ever be going back! I have the Sawatch 15 degree which, as a cold sleeper, has served me well on many different types of trips. If you’d like a more in-depth review, check out this video. I also have their Tarn Down Jacket which is a great midweight backpacking puffy.

Kula Cloth — 10-20% off all products

I have a confession: for years, I was a drip drier. I tried to tell myself, and everyone else, this was an effective method for dealing with pee in the backcountry. It is not. I started to feel gross and moved on to using baby wipes to wipe after I peed, but that was annoying and also I ended up packing out way more TP because of it. I finally purchased a Kula Cloth and I’m never going back! I just used mine for a week in Canyonlands and it’s as good as they say. I also love that they have so many different fun designs to choose from. Show off what you’re hanging off your pack!

Rawlogy: 8% off on GGG (BOGO on their site)

I first heard of Rawlogy during my PCT research and I’ve had a cork ball in my pack on and off ever since. After my foot sprain earlier this year, I imagine rolling out my feet will be a routine part of my trips this year. Their small biz week sale allows you to buy one get one free. Keep one in the pack and one at home or in the car and always have access to a nice foot massage.

Sambob — 10% off all products

*These are 10% off on Sambob’s site and 5% off on GGG.

I’m obsessed with my Sambob fleece. It’s comfy and cozy with a great fit. I got a narrow, medium with an oversized hood (swoon) and picked my own colors. I love microgrid fleece as a midlayer for backpacking or as a comfy layer around camp. I barely took this off the two weeks I was in Utah. I slept in it, hung out around camp in it, and hid from the desert wind in it. I love that you can customize the colors on these and get a sick fleece while supporting a small business.

Territory Run Co — 10% off all products

I am a huge fan of Territory Run Co hats. As someone with a big, awkward head that can’t find many hats that actually look good on me and that I actually LIKE to wear, this is huge. Josh wore one for the entire CDT so they’ve got my vote of confidence in durability and I gifted him a fresh one for our anniversary last year. This is a sale I’ll definitely be shopping myself to stock up on running hats for my ultra training.

Let me know if you have any questions about ANY of this gear, and I hope you save some money for backpacking this season! And remember, the gear you already have that keeps you safe is always the best gear there is.

Thrupack – 20% off

I rocked a Thrupack fanny pack on the entire CDT and so did Josh (as you can see above) and we both LOVE them. It’s durable as all heck (I still wear mine on every single backpacking trip), and it’s another fun, customizable piece of gear. It was great for keeping my little camera and phone dry when it started to rain, and holds all the essentials I don’t want to take my pack off for (snacks, glasses, sunscreen, etc.). I also love that it has a little internal key ring so when I go on weekend trips I can CLIP my key into my fanny pack. This extra little feature gives me so much extra peace of mind.
