Pfiffner Traverse Gear List

Mr. Moose wanted to check out my Pfiffner Gear too.

For the Pfiffner Traverse, I made a few crucial updates to my gear (when compared to my most recent long trip, the CDT). First, I got a new tent! The Dustron X-Mid Pro — which proved to be a great addition to the kit. Next, I added a new sleeping pad, the Nemo Tensor. I’ve been using my partner’s for awhile now and it was time to make it a permanent addition. I’ve also upgraded my sleeping bag to a Katabatic Sawatch 15 degree. This thing is AWESOME.

There are another few key distinctions (due to the terrain and areas we visited) for this list that I’d like to point out. First, I highly recommend some kind of pants for this route. I used my rain pants for the bush wacking sections but if you’re going when it’s hotter you may want something different (but PLEASE, for the sake of your legs, bring something). Next, we brought spikes and an ice axe for Paiute Pass and Northeast Gully (the more technical passes that hold snow well into late summer in high snow years). Crampons may even be a smart considertaion if you’re going earlier in the season. Finally, Rocky Mountain National Park and a few sites in Indian Peaks require either a bear can (like the BV500) or an Ursack with an aluminum liner. I chose to bring the latter to save weight and some bulk.
